The Witherslack Estate
The environs | Over 600 hectares of ancient semi natural woodlands and meadow/pastureland. Much of the woodlands are designated as SSSIs, and managed in close liaison with the Forestry Authority, Lake District National Park and other organisations for the benefit of wildlife and conservation and with sustainability in mind. Woodland management is carried out by the Estate's forestry team who also run the firewood business, Witherslack Woodlands, based at the Halecat woodyard. The majority of the farmland is farmed by the estate farm, Moss Howe Farm |
Halecat House | Built in the early Victorian period, bought and extended by Constance and Frederick Stanley in the late 1860s, to live in while Witherslack Hall was being built. Frederick later became the Earl of Derby and moved to Knowsley. He is best remembered in Canada - for the Stanley Cup and Stanley Park in Vancouver. |
